Gateway West is the first of two identical and mirrored buildings designed at the main entrance to Waterfall City. The brief was to create an iconic gesture to the City that would form a “Gateway” along the spine and main axis of the City. The building had to be both functional and extremely sculptural. The design pushed the boundaries in terms of structure and façade engineering (not least because it was designed on an existing five-level super-basement) but it also addresses the urban fabric of the street and City with one of the main features being an urban piazza and reflection pond at its main entrance.
